Here is an interesting post by our Tech Fairy Ilie - exploring what is the value of the WalkWithMeNowMembership
-----
Almost every time when I post about WWMN on Facebook, there are comments about how expensive it is.
I have been trying to understand why?
"Expensive relative to what?"
I am currently studying pricing, value and costs and I came upon this excellent quote:
"When people complain about the price, this is an indication that they don't see the value".
This was a light-bulb moment for me. You don't often hear that gold is expensive, because there is the shared understanding that gold is more valuable than other metals, so of course that is more expensive. But try to sell copper at the same price of gold, and you will get instant complaints about how expensive it is! We don't say it, maybe we don't even realize it at a conscious level, but it is expensive relative to the value we assign to it .
Interestingly enough, it is not expensive relative to our income! In the case of a low income situation, we can still spot a bargain! (price much lower that the value we assign) even if we cannot afford it.
So expensive is a judgement in our mind of the relationship between the price and perceived value.
What this tells me, is that we are not doing a good job of presenting the value of WalkWithMeNow.
My next question was: "If we are not doing a good job of presenting the value, then where do people get their sense of value from?"
I assume they get it from other teachers selling membership. (I will need to find a way to validate/invalidate this assumption).
So I went ahead and purchased memberships to two very popular teachers. The prices were 10x lower... Maybe that's where the expectation comes from?
So the price is lower, but what about the value? What's on offer inside?
After some digging around what I found was:
- a document library - like our own library, but I have to confess that with better design
- a monthly live call in one case, and a quarterly in the other case
- a weekly update of some kind
- a "community" - I put this in quotes because in my mind that was not a community. Instead it was either a private Facebook group where people chat with each other, or a private chat app where people chat with each other. What was missing in both cases was the teacher's involvement. So it was the bare minimum.
Imagine going to a library, to the mystics section and hang out with a bunch of strangers. If you're the extrovert type it may work.
Now imagine the same, but there with you is also the author of a handful of books and courses from that section. Now you have a party going! Very different energy!
In my mind, the value of WalkWithMeNow is the care, involvement and energy that Inelia is constantly pouring into this community. It's not like: buy the membership and I'll promptly forget about you. And on top of that, is our own commitment and energy and care, that has grown by leaps and bounds in the past year or two.
In a way, WWMN is a bunch of close friends. While the others felt like a party of strangers.
In the case of the others, I was the outsider, so I wonder if new members feel the same way about our community when they first arrive. Like accidentally stepping into a family party.
The value of WWMN
- constant engagement, care and guidance from Inelia - the initiator
- constant engagement, care and commitment from the membership
- a forum software that is way, way better than anything a Facebook Group has to offer. Mainly because it encourages deep thought and not just "short tweet style posts". You can search it, bookmark it, link to it, categorize it.
- the weekly exercises - which in my mind are different from "weekly updates"
- constant access to Inelia via Telegram - I challenge you to find this anywhere else!
- the virtual co-creations in Second Life - granted, it's hard to get into it if you're new - but once you get it... again I bet unique to this group.
The Challenge
How do we communicate this to the world?
